Infusing rhythmic, hard-hitting R&B with lo-fi influences & live instrumentation, Samaria uses a visceral approach in her songwriting and delivery, relaying the raw emotion of heartbreak & introspection with her charismatic honeyed vocals. Born & raised in the Bay Area, the 24-year-old artist grew up on a healthy diet of ‘90s and ‘00s R&B/pop including Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child and Justin Timberlake, among others. Samaria’s early interest in music caught the attention of her late grandmother who offered incentives for good grades like piano lessons & Nickelodeon auditions to encourage her granddaughter to pursue a career in the performing arts field. When her grandmother passed, the then 14-year-old spiraled into depression and stopped showing up to school, resulting in her almost flunking her freshman year. Eventually she took the encouragement to heart by beginning to write music that evolved into posting originals and a popular Drake remix on her SoundCloud by the time she was a high school junior. Buzz from her tracks led to a working relationship with a prominent West Coast producer with whom she linked up with to produce her debut EP “The Story of Right Now”. Incorporating clever word-play songwriting..the last couple of years have seen Samaria’s release standout singles like “Foolish,” an atmospheric, meditative wave of self-reflection, and the lovesick, early ‘00s-influenced “Shy Girl,” an anthem for catching your crush’s attention when you’re a natural introvert.
